Scuba diving training
|
Aloha, and welcome to my
world. My name is Roger. I was raised on the edge of a muddy
pond not too far from the Gulf of Mexico. I grew up playing in the
water, ah... mud. Freshwater creatures fascinated me. Every
chance I got I was
messing with fish, bugs, turtles, ducks, alligators, frogs, snakes and
what ever other kind of creature I could catch . Goofing around in the
water somewhere, poking at some kind of strange something, was a main
daily activity of mine.
How Cool Blue Scuba started When I was fourteen, my big brother Ron took me out in a
boat in Crystal River, Florida, put a scuba tank on my back, stuck a
regulator in my mouth and said "breathe through this". Then he
proceeded to push me backwards off the boat.
Once you have been properly trained how to scuba dive, it's easy but all I
knew then was how to swim. Once in the water, my brother and his
friend took off and left me on the bottom, under the boat. I didn't
know how to equalize my ears or how to get water out of my mask
underwater. So I would go to the surface to get the water out of the
mask every time it got so much water inside that I couldn't see anymore.
Lucky I never went more than twenty feet deep.
Saltwater life fascinates me too, and that led me to move to Waikiki
twenty five years after my first diving experience. After a couple
of months I decided to get certified for scuba diving. I got the
yellow pages, called a nearby scuba shop and told them I had been scuba
diving before and now wanted to get certified.
"Fine" the person on the phone said, "It's $$$$$". The next day I
went to the dive shop. They had me fill out some paperwork then
showed me a fifteen minute video and gave me a quiz. A few minutes
later I got in their van with some others and we went to the dive place.
We got on a boat and went to a certain spot to dive. The instructor
put a scuba tank on my back, handed me the regulator and said "breathe
through this" then pushed me backwards off the boat.
I swam around in a small area near the boat while the instructor pulled
two young Japanese girls around by the hand. Near the end of the
dive the instructor came to me and signaled it was time to go up to the
surface. I motioned to the water inside my mask, and he showed me
how to get it out of the mask while underwater, then we went to the
surface. We went back to the dive shop and I learned I was now a
certified diver. I got my scuba certification card.
I did not go back to that
place. I really liked scuba diving so I found another dive
shop in Kailua. They were thorough and trained me to be a competent
Divemaster.
Over the years I have seen people scuba diving who were dangerous to themselves
and to other divers around them because they were not trained right.
I decided that anyone I trained would be a competent diver and be able to
handle themselves well in the water.
After working for a ecology minded dive shop for over a year as a
Divemaster, then instructor, I created Cool Blue Scuba. Today, as a Scuba Diver,
Coach and Instructor, I find it very rewarding to teach people how to scuba dive
properly, have fun, stay
safe, and respect the ecology while enjoying the underwater world.
I love to be on the water
and in the water. I
feel like I know the water. I respect it, and I am still fascinated and
intrigued by what I see in the ocean. I am living a dream being able to share
my ocean
experiences with others.
With Cool Blue Scuba, I feel I offer more of what there is to experience
in Hawaii for the same as what the "cattle boats" charge. If
you've been on a cattle boat you know what I'm talking about. I am
personally inviting you to discover and experience my world. Contact me anytime. I
left my personal email below and I do answer all my personal email. I look forward to
meeting you soon. Aloha and Happy diving,
Roger,
